As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had decided on Jamaica Cottages for my "She Shed" several years ago - back when it was merely on my wish list. I didn't have any particular design picked out at that point. But when it became a reality, I got down to business and looked seriously at the different designs and what would best suit my needs.
As you can see from the photo above, we have an AMAZING view from our backyard! In fact, that view is the reason we moved here.
That mountain range you see is called the Dragoon Mountains which is located in southeast Arizona. The highest peak is Mount Glenn which sits at 7,520 ft/2,292 m. Our land sits at approximately 4,600ft/1,402m. at the base of the mountains. It was important that my "She Shed" be able to view this scene.
So when it came time for the design, windows were obviously an important feature. Because of that, the 10' x 14' Florida Room was the front runner. It's a beauty with large windows on all four sides! Here are some photos and the basic floor plan.
So we ordered the Florida Room Plans which are plans that allow you to actually build the entire shed yourself. You simply need to purchase the materials, hardware, doors, windows, etc.
Buying the plans allowed us to review them thoroughly to make sure that the building was going to suit the site and my needs - a wise $30 purchase in my mind before such an important investment.
And a wise investment it turned out to be! We got the plans and laid the lines out on the site. Moving them around and actually thinking about the windows in all four directions made us realize that it would get extremely hot in there. Not only were there windows looking towards my incredible view to the east, but it would be hammered by the sun in the summer on the south and west.
There were other things that have the plans in hand helped tremendously with. So, although we decided against this design for my office/She Shed, we will be holding onto them for a possible "Arizona Room" in the future. It's a perfect design for screened rooms which are very popular in Arizona, as I guess they are in many places.
I'll discuss how we decided upon the Home Office design in my next post. Stay tuned.
