Wall Insulation and House Wrap

I've got some catching up to do, but I'll cover what we've done so far with a few posts. This one shows the next step of adding the foam board insulation and house wrap.

The first thing we had to do was trim out the exterior walls with trim pieces to extend them to take the depth of the 2" insulation board which comes with the 4-season kit. If you look closely at the photos below, you can see the pieces nailed over the main frame into which the insulation will fit inside.

A side view to get a better idea of where the insulation will fit in.
Next, we cut the insulation board to fit within the trim pieces, also working around the windows.

That same wall from inside.
You can see the internal framing here. We are customizing our installation. With Jamaica Cottage's usual  Home Office design, the heavy frame is exposed on the inside walls. We are going to be installing the shiplap board siding over the frame since I am indeed using this as an office and will be using a desk and cabinets and want flat walls.

Part of the other side and front walls. Having the insulation provide hard "walls" is very exciting as I can actually see where my windows will be and look at my wonderful views!
Full insulation in place and starting the house wrap
After we finish the insulation board, it's time to add the included housewrap. This is so important as it helps to prevents leaks when the house is properly sealed (such as at the windows, doors, etc.), but it also breathes to prevent the capture of moisture which could cause mold and other problems. Think of it as GoreTex for your house!

Getting started with the housewrap. It went pretty smoothly working from the roll.

The front window and door cutouts. When we install the windows and door, we'll be sure to seal them properly to prevent moisture from being able to get in. That will be in the next post.
Even though you could literally push the insulation out if you tried hard enough, I have to say it was so exciting to get the shed to this point. It no longer takes imagination to see what the actual dimensions and views will be - you can see them!

We purchased our Home Office Kit from Jamaica Cottage Shop. Visit their website to see the full line of products here.
