Brad and I went to the county and got our building permit for the shed. A permit is required since it will have electricity. It turned out to be a painless process, and we were set to go.
We needed to do one final thing before ordering our kit - get our HOA's approval for the shed. That was also very simple since the rules are there just to keep the most egregious atrocities out of the community.
Once we made sure we had those in place, I placed the order for my 12' x 16' Jamaica Cottages Home Office. One thing I really like about Jamaica Cottages is that you are able to customize some of the features. For instance, since we are going to be installing a bunch of windows in it, we didn't need the ones that normally come with the kit.
Here are some Sweet Home 3D screenshots of the design I've worked up for my "She Shed." For those of you not familiar with Sweet Home 3D, it is a wonderful open-source, FREE software program that allows you to design your home, complete with furnishings, windows, doors, etc.!
You'll see that I've got an electric fireplace in there. Just because this is going to be my office doesn't mean I can't enjoy some lovely ambiance.
I found the perfect fireplace for my "She Shed" from Home Depot. It's the Highland 40" Faux Stone Mantel Electric Fireplace in tan. Why have a space heater when you can actually have something attractive and useful?
